Michelle Symes-Thiara
Co-Executive Director

Michelle Symes-Thiara was born and raised in Merced and remains deeply rooted in the community she proudly calls home, where she lives with her husband and their two sons. With nearly three decades of dedicated service in the field of education, Michelle has built a career centered on supporting students, staff, and institutions through thoughtful leadership and collaboration. She currently serves as the Senior Director of Human Resources at Merced Community College, where she continues her commitment to public education and community advancement. A former candidate herself, Michelle has also been a steadfast supporter of the Miss America Organization (MAO), volunteering her time and expertise for the past 29 years.

Wendy Ekizian
Co-Executive Director

Wendy Ekizian has dedicated nearly three decades of service to the Miss America Organization, volunteering for 29 years after first participating as a former candidate herself. A proud mother of three accomplished adult children, Wendy has long balanced family, career, and community involvement with grace and commitment. For more than 30 years, she served as the office manager for her husband’s chiropractic practice, playing a vital role in its success before his retirement. She now brings her professionalism and people-focused approach to her work with Better Homes Real Estate. Deeply invested in her community, Wendy continues to devote her time and energy to numerous community-based projects throughout Merced County, reflecting her lifelong dedication to service and leadership.
